BATAVIA, IL. March 11, 2021 – Eagle Flexible Packaging, Inc. (Eagle) is proud to announce that it has earned the Flexible Packaging Association’s (FPA) 2021 Gold Award for Flexible Packaging Achievement in Sustainability. The honor was bestowed as part of the FPA’s 65th annual Achievement Awards. The Achievement Awards recognize packaging and converting excellence in the flexible packaging industry. Eagle shared this award with its compostable film suppliers Polykar, Inc. and Futamura USA, Inc.
The films used in the award-winning quad-style tea bag that Eagle prints and converts for Arbor Teas are certified compostable and are derived from bio-based and cellulose resins which are from corn feedstock and wood pulp, respectively. These compostable materials are sourced from sustainably managed resources and require a less optimized environment for biodegradation, representing a major advancement in low-impact, environmentally friendly packaging.
“An exciting development in 2020 was the increase in orders for Sustainable Packaging. Eagle saw increases of almost 76% year-over-year when compared to the previous year. Eagle is well positioned as the market leader in recyclable, compostable, from renewable, and films containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) content.” according to Ed Walenga, Eagle’s CEO.
