CNC Apprentice – FT and PT Opportunities

Location: Operations - Batavia, IL


Eagle Flexible Packaging is seeking a CNC Apprentice who will support all key functions of a startup machining department, continually training and learning to machine products, while taking on advancing levels of responsibility, and operating with increased levels of independence. 1st shift position with opportunity to work full-time or part-time per preference.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support CNC Machinists by preparing materials, tools, and parts for machining operations.
  • Assist in setting up CNC machines, including tool changes, fixture adjustments, and verifying machine settings to ensure precision and quality.
  • Gain familiarity with different types of machinery and tooling, learning to identify common machine malfunctions and troubleshoot minor issues under supervision.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and clean work environment, ensuring that workstations, production areas, and supply/tool storage are systematically organized to optimize workflow.
  • Track and manage tool inventory, ensuring that necessary tools and supplies are stocked, in good condition, and readily available for production needs.
  • Consistently perform routine cleaning tasks, including removing debris, cleaning machine surfaces, and ensuring that floors and work areas are free of hazards.
  • After manufacturing, pack finished parts securely and correctly for shipment, ensuring all necessary documentation (such as work orders, packing lists, or shipping labels) is included and product is packed in a manner that will minimize the risk of damage during transit.
  • Verify product quality before packing, checking for defects or inconsistencies that may need to be addressed prior to shipment.
  • Assist with part assembly.
  • As needed, assist Maintenance department with preventative maintenance, repairs, installations, and other projects and activities as needed.
  • Ensure that all company food safety and quality assurance procedures are followed at all times. Escalate any issues/concerns to management.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to safely work in a fast-paced production environment while managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Self-motivated with a sense of accountability, including record of good attendance.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to maximize productivity.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong, ethical decision-making skills with ability to prioritize and troubleshoot.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Professional proficiency in verbal and written English.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, and climb a ladder and stairs.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 75 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training in CNC and/or manual machining processes.
  • Experience with HAAS CNC equipment.
  • Ability to read prints and assembly diagrams.
  • Experience with MIG or TIG welding.

Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour

  • 401K Plan – Plan entry date is the first of the month following 6 months of service. Eagle provides its employees with a 100% match up to 1% and 50% match up to 6%.
  • Company Paid Short Term Disability – The Short Term Disability premium is 100% paid by Eagle.
  • Company Paid Long Term Disability – The Long Term Disability premium is 100% paid by Eagle.
  • Life Insurance – The Basic Life premium is 100% paid by Eagle and is a flat $20,000 benefit for all FT, benefit eligible employees. Employees have the option to purchase additional voluntary life insurance for self, spouse, and dependent children.
  • Vacation/PTO: The amount of vacation/paid time off (PTO) employees receive each year starts at 80 hours (2 weeks) each year, which accrues at a rate of 1.538 hours per week, and increases with the length of employment.
  • 6 Company Paid Holidays – Eligible after 60 days of employment.
  • Sick Leave – Eligible for paid sick days at the rate of 3 days (24 hours) per year after 6 months of service (prorated for per the calendar year).

Part-time team members are provided with the following benefits:

  • Vacation/PTO – Eligible to earn 1 hour of vacation/PTO for every 40 hours worked up to a maximum of 40 hours of vacation/PTO.
  • 401K Plan – Plan entry date is the first of the month following 6 months of service. Eagle provides its employees with a 100% match up to 1% and 50% match up to 6%.
