Purchasing Manager (Batavia, IL)

Eagle Flexible Packaging is seeking a leader of the Purchasing Department who will manage all purchasing functions, including the purchase of all raw materials required for manufacturing production processes, with a global, proactive, financially minded, and efficiency-focused approach. The Head of Purchasing will be responsible for implementing a fully functional and strategic supply chain management/production control infrastructure, ensuring that the Production team always has all materials needed while also reducing excess inventory on hand.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, planning, and implementation of sourcing strategy for all goods and materials that delivers the best value, price, customer service, and efficiencies.
  • Design and execute strategies and plans to meet short-term and long-term supply chain management/production control requirements.
  • Align the purchasing strategy and plans with the overall goals of the company to rationalize supply base and achieve cost goals to ensure maximum opportunity is achieved for all purchases.
  • Partner with Production Scheduling to ensure that purchasing needs are effectively forecasted and allocated to jobs.
  • Negotiate with vendors for good and services, utilizing price and cost analyses to ensure the company is receiving the best overall value and securing the best possible price and service guarantees.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers to build trust as well as to effectively resolve issues regarding performance, timelines, product quality, delivery, and commitments.
  • Proactively research and develop new supply sources, leveraging understanding of manufacturing process and materials to ensure that company is purchasing high-quality and innovative materials at favorable prices.
  • Build and maintain relationships with production outsourcing partners, negotiating service terms and ensuring that agreements are fulfilled as mutually agreed.
  • Maintain and audit accuracy of data in EFI-Radius, the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, in a timely manner (e.g., standard costs of raw material items, input and issuance from inventory, material usage, reallocation of raw materials, etc.).
  • Ensure that raw material received is updated in the ERP system in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Improve utilization of materials requirement planning (MRP) tools within the ERP system, making changes as needed to ensure that inventory is effectively tracked and controlled (e.g., set, review, and leverage minimum stock levels of key items to avoid out of stock scenarios).
  • Partner with IT to launch modules within ERP to promote increased efficiencies and cost-savings measures (e.g., RFQ and quoting modules).
  • Ensure accurate end of month inventory reconciliation for all raw material.
  • Perform required administrative functions for the purchasing of goods and services.
  • Provide effective leadership and coaching to direct reports, fairly delegating responsibilities, managing performance, and providing ongoing training and support.
  • Ensure that all company food safety and quality assurance procedures are followed at all times. Escalate any issues/concerns to management.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school degree, equivalent (GED), or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a relevant role that includes complex purchasing responsibilities.
  • Team leadership experience, including performance management experience and demonstrated ability to motivate individuals.
  • Proficient in standard business software with proven ability to learn complex new software programs.
  • Continuous improvement mentality with experience successfully recognizing and implementing efficiencies and cost-savings measures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Global and forward-thinking mindset, including ability to proactively and assertively approach role and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency, prioritize, and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced, high volume work environment.
  • Professional proficiency in verbal and written English, including ability to effectively and professionally communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent work ethic and willingness to learn.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ERP software.
  • Experience in the packaging industry, preferably flexible packaging.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

Pay: $70,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year

  • 401K Plan – Plan entry date is the first of the month following 6 months of service. Eagle provides its employees with a 100% match up to 1% and 50% match up to 6%.
  • Company Paid Short Term Disability – The Short Term Disability premium is 100% paid by Eagle.
  • Company Paid Long Term Disability – The Long Term Disability premium is 100% paid by Eagle.
  • Life Insurance – The Basic Life premium is 100% paid by Eagle and is a flat $20,000 benefit for all FT, benefit eligible employees. Employees have the option to purchase additional voluntary life insurance for self, spouse, and dependent children.
  • Vacation/PTO: The amount of vacation/paid time off (PTO) employees receive each year starts at 80 hours (2 weeks) each year, which accrues at a rate of 1.538 hours per week, and increases with the length of employment.
  • 6 Company Paid Holidays – Eligible after 60 days of employment.
  • Sick Leave – Eligible for paid sick days at the rate of 3 days (24 hours) per year after 6 months of service (prorated for per the calendar year).
